Oral-B iO5 Electric Toothbrush, 1 Head and Travel Case, 5 Modes
A feature-rich Oral-B iO with five cleaning modes, a pressure sensor, LightRing timer and app tracking, supplied with one head and a travel case.
Features
Overview
The Oral-B iO5 is the step up for people who want more control over how they brush. It adds two extra modes over the iO 3 and connects to the Oral-B app, which tracks where you have brushed in real time. It comes with one brush head and a travel case.
Like the rest of the range, it uses a quiet magnetic drive with a round head, which is gentler and less buzzy than older Oral-B handles.

What it does well
The five modes cover a wider range of needs than the cheaper iO models, including a Super-Sensitive setting for people whose gums are easily irritated, and an Intense Clean mode for a deeper session. The pressure sensor tells you if you are brushing too hard or too softly, which is useful feedback if you are trying to improve your technique. The app adds coverage tracking if you like that kind of data.
A note on the RRP
The "was" price on Amazon is Oral-B's list price. The iO range is routinely sold well below it, so the percentage off overstates the real saving. The current price is competitive for a five-mode iO, but the headline discount is not a fair measure of what you are saving.
Heads and compatibility
iO handles take iO heads only. Cross Action, Precision Clean and other older Oral-B heads will not fit. Replace the head about every three months and factor that cost in.
Who it suits
- People who want to track their brushing and improve their technique.
- Anyone with sensitive gums who wants a Super-Sensitive mode.
- Buyers who want the most feature-rich iO without moving up to the top models.
Who should skip it
- Anyone who will never use an app or extra modes, as the iO2 or iO 3 is cheaper.
- Buyers who want a bundle of several heads, as only one is included.
