Oral-B iO 3 Matt Black Ultimate Clean Electric Toothbrush
A mid-range Oral-B iO in Matt Black with a pressure sensor, LightRing timer and three modes, supplied with a travel case, charger pouch and refill holder.
Features
Overview
The Oral-B iO 3 sits one step above the entry-level iO2. It keeps the quiet magnetic drive and round head, and adds a LightRing timer, a refill-change alert and three cleaning modes. This Matt Black version includes a travel case, a charger pouch and a refill holder, so it is ready for home and travel straight from the box.
It suits people who want a clear, glanceable display of how their brushing is going without paying for the app-connected models.

What it does well
The LightRing around the handle gives a clear colour signal when you are pressing too hard, too softly or about right. That is more intuitive than a single warning light. The Sensitive and Whitening modes cover the most common reasons people want to change mode, and the refill alert tells you when the head is due a swap.
A note on the RRP
The "was" price on Amazon is Oral-B's list price. The iO range is routinely sold well below it, so the percentage off overstates the real saving. The current price is reasonable for the features, but it is not a discount of the size the listing implies.
Heads and compatibility
iO handles take iO heads only. Cross Action, Precision Clean and other older Oral-B heads do not fit, so you cannot reuse a stockpile of old ones. Allow for a new head about every three months.
Who it suits
- Anyone who wants a pressure sensor and timer display without paying for app features.
- People with sensitive teeth or who want a whitening mode.
- Those who like the matt black finish and a ready-to-travel kit.
Who should skip it
- Anyone who wants app tracking or more than three modes, who should look at the iO5.
- Buyers on the tightest budget, where the iO2 does the core job for less.
