The KEPLIN 1kg car dehumidifier is a reusable silica gel bag that sits in the cabin and takes moisture out of the air before it can condense on the inside of the windscreen and windows. It holds up to 400ml of water, comes with an anti-slip mat so it stays put on the dashboard, and can be dried out and used again rather than thrown away.

How it works

Silica gel absorbs water vapour from the air around it. On cold, damp mornings that vapour is what fogs up the glass from the inside, so lowering it means clearer windows and less time spent waiting for the blowers to clear the screen. Once the gel is full it stops absorbing until it is dried out again.

The gel is DMF free and RoHS certified, and it stays sealed inside the bag, so there is no tray of liquid to spill like a conventional moisture trap.

Using it in the car

  • Place the bag on the anti-slip mat on the dashboard, or on another flat surface where air can reach it.
  • Do not bury it under coats or bags, as the gel can only absorb moisture from air that reaches it.
  • It also suits vans, motorhomes, caravans, boats and motorcycles.

Recharging the bag

After several months of use the gel will be full. It can be dried out and refreshed by any of these methods:

  • Microwave for three minutes at 700W
  • Oven for 2 to 3 hours at 60°C
  • Leaving it on a radiator or heater
  • Leaving it in direct sunlight

Let it cool before putting it back in the car.

Other uses

The same bag works anywhere damp is a problem in a small, enclosed space: a caravan or motorhome over winter, a garage with tools and garden furniture, or a cupboard holding electronics. In storage it helps prevent the rust, mould stains and musty smells that build up over the colder months.

What it will and will not do

The bag lowers the moisture level in the cabin, which cuts down condensation on the inside of the glass. It will not fix a leak, a wet carpet or water trapped in the trim. If the windows mist up again within a day or two of recharging, the car is taking on water faster than a 1kg bag can remove it, so find and fix the source first.

Choosing a car dehumidifier

Compare the weight of the bag and how much water it can hold, whether it is reusable or single use, and whether a mat or tray is included. This one is a 1kg reusable silica gel bag that holds up to 400ml, with an anti-slip mat. Single-use absorbers are thrown away once full, while a reusable bag like this one is dried out and used again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the KEPLIN car dehumidifier reusable?
Yes. Once the silica gel is full it can be dried out in the microwave (three minutes at 700W), in the oven (2 to 3 hours at 60°C), on a radiator or in sunlight, then used again.
How much moisture does it absorb?
The 1kg bag can absorb up to 400ml of water before it needs recharging.
Will it stop my windscreen misting up?
It reduces the moisture in the cabin, which reduces condensation on the inside of the glass. It will not fix misting caused by a leak or a wet interior.
Where should I put it in the car?
On the included anti-slip mat on the dashboard, or another flat surface where air can reach the bag. Do not cover it.
Can I use it outside the car?
Yes. It also suits vans, caravans, motorhomes, boats, garages and storage cupboards where damp is a problem.
