Crystals is a UK-sold range of reusable silica gel dehumidifiers from Denny International, aimed at the damp and condensation problems that come with British winters. Its best-known product is the 1kg car dehumidifier bag: a fabric pouch of silica gel that sits on the dashboard, under a seat or in the footwell and draws moisture out of the air, so the windscreen mists up less on cold mornings. The bags are reusable rather than disposable. A small indicator window turns pink as the gel fills with moisture and back to blue once it has been dried in the microwave, so there is no guesswork about when to recharge it. Anti-slip pads hold it in place on the dash while you drive. The same bag works well beyond the car. It suits vans, caravans and boats left standing over winter, and wardrobes, cupboards and storage boxes around the house. For a whole room you will want a compressor or desiccant dehumidifier, but for small enclosed spaces a Crystals bag is a cheap, no-power fix.
