A high-density activated carbon layer sits alongside the HEPA media to tackle odours and VOCs, which makes the R-2200 a sensible pick for kitchens, homes with pets, or anyone dealing with cooking smells or smoke drifting in from outside.

The trade-off is size: at 24.4cm wide and 54.4cm tall, it's a floor-standing cylinder rather than a tabletop unit, so it needs a bit of floor space to work from.

Auto sense mode and the illuminated air quality ring

An onboard air quality sensor monitors the room continuously and ramps the fan up automatically as pollution levels rise, so it can be left running on auto rather than adjusted by hand. The illuminated ring around the top changes colour to show current air quality at a glance, and the three fan speeds can also be set manually by sliding the dome control.

Quiet, low-energy operation

The brushless motor runs at 30 decibels and draws just 45 watts, which keeps both the noise and the running cost low enough for continuous use, including overnight in a bedroom.
